Valentine Votive Candle Holder Tutorial

Hi everyone!
Finally, I have started crafting again! :) As usual, I have way too many projects but I now also have a tiny bit more time and in between job hunting and doing the house work and all other things I need to do, so slowly things are progressing.

With Valentine's Day around the corner, I really had to get cracking. Especially since the bf was away yesterday and I could make as much mess as I wanted *naughty grin*. This year I'm in charge (with the whole non-work thing) and I am going to make this a Valentine's Day to remember. It is going to be super cheesy with lots of hearts everywhere, all I have to do is really get started on the decorations!

So yesterday I started preparations, and I thought that you might all like to know how you could really easily make votive candle holders. Please excuse the bad pictures, but my place is a mess and taking pretty pics is a bit of a challenge at the moment ;)

First, you need Mod Podge and tissue paper in whichever colours you want to be using. I used pink and red for the Valentine theme. At the moment they are selling lots of colours at Poundland, I got lots of Easter colours in a pack and still had some red leftover from Christmas.

Of course you also need some empty glasses or jars. I used three small Nutella jars, these dont have a screw lid so after some washing up they can be used as glasses. This version has lines in it and the bf really didnt like them so I kept them for future projects. Perfect for this one!

Cut strips of tissue paper to match the width of the glass/jar, cover the glass in MP and stick on the tissue paper. I used pink as a base, you will see why :) Try not to wrinkle the tissue paper too much (am still trying to get it perfect but usually it is sortof ok). Let dry. I used matt MP as I wanted to votives to have a romantic non-shiny/glittery glow.

Cut various sized hearts out of the red tissue paper and stick these onto the glasses. You need to top-coat the glasses anyway, so you can do this at the same time: as you spread the MP on the glass, stick on a heart and quickly add another layer over the heart as well. Continue until all your glasses have hearts on them, let dry.

Once all is dry, you can put a tea candle/votive candle in the glasses and light them up. Look how cute they look! I am very happy with the result :) They will of course look even better on my Valentine table but that will have to wait for a few days.

I just hope the bf wont be reading my blog for the next two days, it is supposed to be a surprise ;) I also hope you liked my tutorial and that you have a go yourself as well. This is a great way to get rid of excess glasses/jars and have crafty fun at the same time. Have fun everyone!
