Halloweening - Harry Potter Potion Bottles

OMG I LOOOOVE Halloween! As you can probably see from m blog background, it is my favourite time of year. Of course I also decorate for Christmas, but I just so much prefer the colour scheme of Halloween, and the whole pumpkins and stuff... Last year I went to the USA for some Halloween shopping, it was my pilgrimage to Salem, something I always wanted to do. Little did I know that for all the good Halloween stuff, you need to start shopping in September already! I found this fantastic bowl in a shop there but I only found one... very sad as the bf now doesnt have one. I'll post a picture of it sometime so if anyone sees it... *hope hope*

Finally all my tasks are done: the steampunk dress is finished, the gift exchange parcel has been posted... ok I still need to tidy but I basically now have 6 weeks (nearly) to focus on Halloween. Yay!! I have so many projects saved in my to do list that I have found in the wonderful world of blogging since I started this and to be able to start ticking things off the list is just wonderful!

As you may remember from a previous post, I went to the craft shop a couple of weeks ago and bought m first ever jar of Mod Podge (I keep saying 'modge podge', does anyone else have that?). I found a blog post from someone who made Happy Potter potion bottles using brown paper bags and Mod Podge and it looked so cool I had to try it also. I still had a good few bottles lying around from medieval wines etc., and I bought two extra ones (the square ones in the picture, they were £1.50 each at the charity shop but they do look very cool!). They did have the ones from the original post but they were quite expensive at my craft shop (no sale there), so I used what I had. Also a very good frugal thing ;) So anyway, I got the paper bags from the fruit guy at the market and started making the bottles last night. I surfed the net for the Harry Potter potions as my books are currently residing with my mother, and wrote the names on the paper bags. I then cut them out and burned the edges, and Mod Podged them onto the bottles. I filled the bottles with food colouring and added water. En voila! Halloweeny Harry Potter Potion Bottles. They look amazing!!

These are my potions :) I just love them!

This potion is my favourite as after years of trying, I managed to achieve purple!!! In the UK they dont sell purple food colouring and no matter what I did with red and blue, it never worked. Now I learned the trick! Dont use red and blue, use PINK and blue :)

The Polyjuice Potion has a lot of black food colouring to make it look all icky, and it really works! When you shake the bottle it's all gooey...

I even added a rock to the Elixer of Life to represent the Philosopher's Stone ;) Now we can live forever! Muahahaha...

On a rather large note, should the person whose idea this was read this, please let me know and I will give credit where credit is due. I enjoyed making these very much and want to able to thank her for it so please please let me know!

My internet was down again this morning so I better post this before it goes again... I have finally finished the recycled witch as well and need a place to hang her before taking pictures, but I'll post as soon as I can. I now need to go and find more stuff to Mod Podge ;)
