Steampunk Outfit - Hat Finished!

The hat, the hat! It's a big thing in Monty Python's 'The Meaning of Life', it's hilarious and you must watch it! So anyway, the hat... I used a template of a hat I bought from Veil of Visions ages ago. I liked the shape but wasnt sure what I wanted which is why I didnt special order one and wanted to try making one myself.

It took a while but it is by FAR the best part of this outfit. I had so much fun making it!!

The hat, the hat!

I used the same metallic gold fabric as I had used for the corsety top, and used the same gold lace (£1 for over 2 meters, bargain!) on the edges to give it a more Victorian look.

Details of the front part of the hat.

I found this brooch on eBay a few months ago and just had to have it. It would be perfect for my hat, and indeed it is (or at least I think so). It may be a bit too cute with the hearts but I like it. The colours go really well with the whole outfit and it really makes the hat. I dont remember how much I spent on it really but it was worth it (far under a tenner though). Can you also see the little keys on the hat that are also used on the skirt? And the ribbons are the same as on the gloves and the tie. I lined it with the satin material that the overskirt is made of and together with the gold metallic it is quite strong and wont collapse soon (or so I hope).

The back part with its many ribbons

The back part has nuts and bolts scattered on it (and then sewn of course) that I spraypainted gold also. I then folded some of the beige ribbon to make two different sized bows and tied the brown ribbon that was remaining from the sides over that, creating a triple bow with tassels and a bit of volume.

With most of the top of the outfit now shown, it was time for some funny pics. The wig is the blond wig from that first steampunk post so long ago. Am still debaiting with the bf if the wig should be white or not. I quite like the blond... I will try it with the witchy Santa wig and see how that looks.

Holding the good eye closed, I cant see anything! (I wasnt actually wearing my contact for this)

See, I told you it is quite army like! LOL

Have to go brush my hair now. My very own mousy hair but at least I dont have these curls every day! LOL. Gnite y'all!
