Knit Dress Makeover

Hello again :)
A friend of mine from work gave me a bag of clothes a while ago as you may remember if you have been a follower for a while. She had this knitdress and after seeing all the gorgeous knitdresses in blogland, I just knew I could do something with this!

It was a dress from the Gap (not that I'm into brands but some people are so I thought I'd highlight this fact). My friend is a size larger than me so this pic is actually taken just as I was pinning it to take it in (the lazy way).

The dress had 3/4 puffy sleeves and not much of a waist line. As the knit was very stretchy it was quite tricky to get it to stay put. Mmm, what to do... a few weeks (or even months!) later, I finally came up with an idea. It was time to put my collection of ribbon to good use :)

Taadaa! I took the dress is, added some darts in the back to increase the waist line, cut off the sleeves, and sewed on a ribbon to be tied in the back empire-line style. I only sewed the ribbon in the centre to allow for movement and to stop the knit from stretching even more.

The back showing the bowtie ribbon, I think this gives it a really cute effect, although this pose isnt great, but you get the idea.

I had originally wanted to make short puffy sleeves but I made the elastic too tight so I had to take it out in the end, it's much more comfy now :)

I still had some ribbon leftover which I then glued to a headband I got off the market for only 50p. It now matches the dress :)

Sorry about the awful pictures, it's the best I can do at the moment... The dress was much complimented at work and even my friend wants it back now hihi. I do hope she was kidding! ;)
