Pink Quilted Bag is Finally Done!

Hi everyone!
First of all, let me assure you that I'm still trying to work out why my blog is loading so slowly right now. The problem seems to be with the widgethost, I just have to find out which widget is causing the problem. And I don't even have that many on this blog! Anyway... back to my wonderful bag...

As you may remember (or not considering my recent absence from posting a lot) I've been trying to finish a quilted bag. My very first I must add. A while ago, I won some fabrics via different giveaways (like this one and another one I actually never blogged about. Oops... ) which I've used in small projects like this one. I still had a lot of those fabrics leftover as most of them were pink and some green, and pink is somehow not really my colour. But when I went to the Stitch & Craft Show this year, I participated in the lucky fabric dip again. You know, buy a raffle and whichever bit of fabric has the corresponding number is the bit that you get. So you always win and it's a lot of fun. Last year I hit the jackpot with some spider fabric, this year I was not so lucky but thank goodness there was a special swap box for people who got fabrics they really didn't like. Inside the box I found a bit of fabric that would pull all those random fabrics I won together wonderfully. But it gets better, when I got home this piece of fabric was a bit smaller than expected but it had two more pieces inside it that matched the rest superbly well! Score :)

Nonetheless, it was very pink... But one of my sewing friends had the best idea: to add some black fabric to it (the pinks had a tiny bit of black in it also) and topstitch it with black thread. More score!

Behold, my shiny and new craft bag :)

But of course you want some closeups. At least I hope so! I couldn't get the lighting right, so I took some photos inside and outside and just chose the best out of all of them (there were a few!) to show this bag from all angles. I based the bag on this pattern, I just made it a little bigger. Well, about twice the size really.

I made some simple squares, not too difficult for the first attempt, and topstitched those diagonally across the squares. It's mostly straight ;)

This is the best picture of my flower that I made with the remaining part of my lime green zipper which was much too long for this bag but the only one I could find in this colour. I made a yoyo with the fabric I used for the lining, added the zipper flower, and three different sized polka dot buttons. It's too cute! Also a great closeup of the quilting and fabrics used.

Originally I had no idea what I wanted to make and I ended up with a square. There shall be no pink cushion in my house so I had to add another row so I could fold it over and make a bag. That's why the bottom looks really nice (or so I think).

This is the back... yes, the gathering part didn't quite work the way I wanted it to, but I was getting enough of it and only saw that big fold in the middle when it was too late. Oh well...

The inside of the bag. I used the fleece from an old bathrobe (my zombie one actually LOL) to line the bag with and give it that puffy effect without having to use very thick wadding. Isn't it sweet! I bought this a while back to make my cupcake bb pouch and had so much leftover!

The striped pink went amazingly well with the rest of the fabric, as long as it wasn't used as part of the quilted bit. As a contrast I think it works superbly. And it's so sweet :)

This photo was just too nice not to include in the list. It shows the quilted strap as well which is nice. As it's taken in direct sunlight, the colours are a bit too light but I just love it anyway.

I can now carry more than one project to the sewing group. See, I'm making progress on my sock!

For my first attempt, this is not at all bad. I could have been better in some ways, but at some point I had to say 'enough' and just go with it. And even though it's pink, I still love it as the black button fabric really make it all better.

I'll share this with The Sewing Directory as I think that all fabrics I used that were not the black fabric and lucky dip which I bought at the show were won via their giveaways. So thank you Fiona! And see, it might take some time, but it will get done eventually. :)

It is going to be a super busy weekend with the Queen's Jubilee and I have made NOTHING for it yet, even after I had so many plans to make stuff, life just got in the way. But I'll take lots of pics and share them on here when I can. But it might be a bit quiet for the next few days while I try to partake in as many events as possible. And I'll be busy admiring my bag also of course ;)
