Celebrate Oz - Ruby Slippers

Today we Celebrate Oz via Old Baggs 'n' Stuft Shirts!

I just love all things related to the Wizard of Oz, and as you may know, especially the second part 'Return to Oz' :)

My contribution to this wonderful day of Oz celebrations will not actually be the Mombi Dress, although that is by far the best thing I have ever made and I really love it still. Now all I need is an occassion to wear it again... Just in case you need a reminder ;)

I thought I would go into some more details about my ruby slippers that I made for this dress.

In my version of Mombi, she actually defeated Dorothy and the Gnome King and managed to become the ruler of Oz. Hence having the ruby slippers ;) I so wanted to wear these that I got some photos off the web and used them as a reference. This is also where my wish of visiting the Smithsonian Museum of American History in D.C. comes from, something that I really must do one day so I can see the original ruby slippers... *sigh*

Anyway, I bought some fairly plain red shoes on eBay....

...painted the heel as this was wooden...

...and painstakingly glued sequins on the shoes, one sequin at a time.

I am so pleased with the result! And these were so comfy also! But after walking in them for nigh on 9 hours, I really couldnt wear them anymore, so on the second day I just wore my sneakers instead. Shame really... but prettyyyyy!

  1. You should have seen how big my eyes opened when I read " that is by far the best thing I have ever made". My brain screamed "I MADE" as in she put that wondrous dress together!? Oh my freaking creative gods. You are gifted lady! I'm green with wicked good envy. Or maybe is just an Oz overload.

    Thanks for sharing your goodness!

You should participate in my upcoming Witches in Fiction blog party and share a bit more of your thoughts on witchy things.

  6. Such a fan-tab-u-lous outfit. Your red ruby shoes are beautiful; my feet sympathize with your feet. Be careful, however, of where you might end of if you click your sneakers together 3 times and make a wish..HA!
